I am a musician and music producer from Dublin, and I love bringing people together through music.
Apart from piano lessons I have no formal music education! Instead, I was very fortunate to grow up in a musical household watching my parents conduct choirs, direct musicals and compose music together.
Over the years I have developed my musical abilities further through music production, DJing, collaboration and singing in choirs myself.
As a producer/DJ in dance music I have made music as
Phil Mac and have performed at all kinds of venues and shows over the years, including my own live show combining DJing and live performance.
I am a techie! Before all this I worked as a software engineer for many years.
Independently I have developed music applications including an early virtual reality DJing app called
Reality Decks and tools for music producers at
Iceberg Audio.
In 2018 I joined the fantastic
London City Voices choir and met
Richard Swan. Richard's fun and inclusive approach to choirs really inspired me.
When I returned to Dublin I could not find anything similar where I could share music with others in the same way.
One thing led to another and I set up The Dawson Chorus.
A year later London City Voices visited Dublin and we brought both choirs together to perform, which was a very special celebration.
I am now a full-time arranger and producer, and I run The Dawson Chorus with the help of my wife Audrey.
Since setting up the choir, we have been encouraged and supported by so many wonderful choir members, along with their families, friends and the wider Dublin community. It is an honour
to do this work and to bring more music (including pub singalongs!) to a city that we love.
Do come and say hello if you see us out and about!
